Carswell & Hope celebrate their debut album release with a crowd-funded tour to Ireland
Lawrence, Kansas – July 8th, 2014: Kansas-based 4-piece with Irish front man and songwriter Nick Carswell play an Irish tour this July/August in support of their debut album, A Hunger. The band raised funds for the release and tour through a successful Indiegogo campaign and will visit venues from Dublin to Clonkilty, Dingle and Co.Clare over the end of July and the August bank holiday weekend.
Carswell & Hope are a four-piece from Lawrence, Kansas. Limerick native Nick Carswell arrived in the US Midwest in July 2011 with guitar in tow. Soon upon arriving, he joined with Jason Slote (drums), Dan Hines (bass) and Austin Quick (keys) to form Carswell & Hope. Nearly three years later the band have just released their self-produced debut, A Hunger on the collective label Silly Goose Records. The record has already been hailed as “a breath of fresh air” (iheartlocalmusic.com) and “an audacious debut” (The Deli Magazine). Drawing from the world of The Beatles, Wilco and The Frames, the music is a blend of psychedelic, Pink Floyd interrupting Motown, and channeling Van Morrison.
Carswell & Hope are back in Ireland on a national tour for the release of the debut. The band raised over $10,000 through a successful crowd-funding campaign and with funding from ArtsKC Regional Arts Council. Dates include Dublin, Limerick, Galway, Cork, Clonakilty, Dingle, Kilkee and Lahinch. The band will also join with members of The Elective Orchestra, Carswell’s former Irish outfit, for a series of performances. The Elective Orchestra’s 2011 release, The Word, was described by the Irish Times as “sincere, heartfelt musings on love, loneliness and longing . . . Carswell speaks from the heart. It suits him.”
About the upcoming tour, Carswell & Hope front-man and songwriter said: “We can’t wait to get back home and play the new record to fans of The Elective Orchestra, and Irish audiences in general. It’s pretty unique for a US band to be able to book an independent tour all the way from the middle of the US, playing venues ranging from big rooms in the cities to tiny music clubs and pubs on the west coast.
About the crowd-funded project: “We’re constantly hearing that the music industry is in bad shape and shifting under our feet. Well, for a relatively unknown band like us to raise money for a debut record and international tour, we’re not sure the new system is such a bad thing! We now have a fan-base on both sides of the Atlantic, and we look forward to building that into the future, one album, one tour at a time.”

About Carswell & Hope
From the Midwest seed-bed of indie-rock, Carswell & Hope bring vintage rock sounds and sensibilities together with big harmonies, carefully crafted textures and inventive songwriting. Songwriter Nick Carswell is originally from Ireland and has found a new home on the plains of Kansas. The tone is a blend of psychedelic, Pink Floyd interrupting Motown, channeling Van Morrison and Wilco. Think Mumford & Sons meets Sigur Ros, and Glen Hansard shows them around town.
